I Should Have Told You Sooner... About My Hoodia Test

Hi Yall,

I haven't told many people yet, and there's a good reason for that, but I wanted to share with all my fellow Hoodia dieters that the time has come for me to seek additional means of help with weight loss and better nutrition.

From now on I will be focusing more on using Hoodia with a very nutritional diet and regular exercise routine. More on this later tonight.

I'm starving and I still need to take my Hoodia.

Until Next Time,
Judy

Search Hoodia Directory

Hi Ya'll,

Google
recently posted the results in "Sandbox" for the keywords including "HOODIA" and the results were very interesting, to say the least.

Here's how HOODIA (667,000 avg searches per month! - still the number 1 Hoodia keyword - go figure...) stacks up. Oh, and please keep in mind that these are keywords with the most drastic moves:

HOODIA DIET PILL up this month with 27,100 avg searches per month. It had a minor improvement.

HOODIA PLUS
and HOODIA GORDONII PLUS are now both on the rise totaling over 39,000 avg searches per month combined!

HOODIA WORK with 6,600 avg searches per month in a running tie with HOODIA SUPPLEMENT which also has 6,600 avg searches per month. They both came up from around 3,200 and 2,900 respetively from last month's totals.

1 HOODIA with a whopping 3,600 avg searches per month (who searches like this?) which is mimicking HOODIA GORDONII DIET PILL which also has 3,600 avg searches per month. Both of these are far too generic of search terms to get the best results for what you're seeking.

So what's the best way to search for Hoodia?
Well, I'm no search engine expert, but I was a librarian in college. Does that count? Just using common sense and a hypothetical, knowing nothing much about the particular product my girlfriend told me about, I proceed to search for nothing more than.... dah dah dah.. Hoodia! - And what do I get from Google in return for my brilliant search technique? The first offering from google is a sales page for a product I thought was long extinct. And number 2? Of course, Wikipedia!

So much for relying on google to give me the refined keyword options before the suggested links like they do with "codeine" amongst other remedies.

Well, maybe one day this can all be possible. Until then, I will update as often as possible to bring you the best and latest on HoodiaBlog!

The Story of Hoodia Gordonii

The Story of Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia gordonii (pronounced HOO-dee-ah) is also called hoodia, xhooba, khoba, Ghaap, hoodia cactus, and South African desert cactus. It’s actually not a true cactus at all, but rather is a succulent with sharp spines, that resembles a cactus.

Hoodia is causing quite a stir for its ability to suppress appetite, thereby promoting weight loss. The CBS television news program, 60 Minutes, and the British network, BBC have already featured stories about Hoodia.

Hoodia Gordonii can only be found in the semi-arid deserts of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. Hoodia grows in clumps of green upright stalks.

It takes about five years, or more, before Hoodia’s pale purple flowers appear. After that time the plant can be eaten. Although there are at least 40 known varieties of Hoodia, only the Gordonii species is believed to contain the natural appetite suppressant.

Modern scientists only recently discovered Hoodia, however the San peoples, or Bushmen, have been eating it for centuries. These indigenous people, who live off the land, traditionally cut off part of the stem and eat it to stave off hunger and thirst during their arduous hunting trips across the desert. They also eat it for various medical issues, but, to date, no modern research has been done on those uses.

In 1937, a Dutch anthropologist studying the San people noted that they used Hoodia to suppress appetite. But it wasn’t until 1963, when scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), South Africa’s national laboratory, began studying Hoodia. Initial results were promising – lab animals lost weight after eating Hoodia Gordonii.

After 30 years of research, the South African scientists at CSIR isolated the active ingredient in Hoodia, and obtained a patent on the molecule in 1995. It is a steroidal glycoside, which they named P57. The South African government then licensed the patent to a British firm named Phytopharm.

Then, Phytopharm licensed the patent to American drug giant, Pfizer. The intent was to use the molecule, P57, as a base, to mass-create an artificial drug to meet the demands of millions of people. After three years of investigation, Pfizer pulled out of the deal, saying it would be too expensive to ever bring to market.

In December of 2004, Phytopharm licensed to Unilever, who has promised to bring this man-made drug to market.

It remains to be seen if a weight loss drug utilizing P57 will ever be realized.

In the meantime, while you wait and wait for the artificial product, Hoodia Gordonii Plus, a whole plant formula, is available right now. You can order this very minute, and become friends again with your reflection in a full-length mirror.

Hoodia Gordonii Plus Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Hoodia gordonii plus diet pill safe?
The hoodia gordonii plus pill contains 100% natural ingredients and is 100% safe to use.

Q: How does the Hoodia gordonii diet pill work?
The Hoodia gordonii plant contains an active ingredient that fools your brain into believing that you have had enough to eat. All you need to do is take your pill 20-30 minutes before your meal. Everyone is different and the effects of the Hoodia diet pill may take up to 14 days to work.

Pfizer, who developed Viagra, has invested approximately $21 million for the right to develop the active ingredient, P57 which mimics the effects that glucose (ten thousand times as active as glucose) has on the brain. This mimicking effect of the active ingredient in Hoodia is what fools the brain into believing that it is full and no more food is required.

Q: How fast will I lose weight with the Hoodia Diet Pill?
Studies done in Leicester, England have shown that people using the Hoodia gordonii diet pill reduce their calorie intake by up to 1000 calories a day and when you put that into pounds lost it may equate up to 4-6 pounds a week.

Q: Are you sure the Hoodia in your diet pill is pure?
Hoodia gordonii is one of many species in the Hoodia genus and it takes a trained botanist or San collector to be able to distinguish species without looking at the flower. Without the flower Hoodia gordonii is difficult to distinguish from other species and unscrupulous collectors will not wait for their flowering period.

Hoodia gordonii is a CITES (Convention of Illicit Trade of Endangered Species) protected succulent which means that the collecting of Hoodia in the wild is illegal without a permit (which is very difficult to obtain from the South African government).

The Hoodia gordonii in the approved diet pills on this site will carry their CITES export permit from and have proof that the raw Hoodia is indeed from a government approved Hoodia grower in South Africa.

Q: How was the Hoodia cactus secret discovered?
The active ingredient, P57, was not discovered by accident. In 1996 the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) was doing research on the food that the local "Bushmen" or San ate.

The CSIR was amazed when they analyzed Hoodia gordonii, the animals they where testing it on did not die or have any side effect except weight loss. It was concluded that the Hoodia gordonii succulent was non-toxic and a natural appetite suppressant. By 1997 the CSIR had isolated the bioactive compound in Hoodia that had the appetite suppressing properties. They obtained a patent and licensed P57, named P57 because it was the 57th product the CSIR had spent funds on, to Phytopharm.

Tips To Buy Real Hoodia Gordonii

Judy's "NO B.S." Tips To Buying Real Hoodia Gordonii And Making Sure It Works

People have different views when there is a debate on Hoodia products.

Hence it is very important to take a look at some of the common guidelines to nullify the chances of buying fake products and maximize the chances of getting a real Hoodia product.

To select a good Hoodia product you must know the following facts about Hoodia:

• There are many types of Hoodia plants, but only Hoodia Gordonii species have appetite-suppressing effects. The main point is to note that you should not buy the product with label “100% natural Hoodia.” Of course you are buying natural Hoodia but not the desired Hoodia Gordonii.

• If you are buying Hoodia Gordonii online then you must see CITES certificate issued by International trade laws. Only then you can be confirmed that you are buying natural Hoodia Gordonii.

• Lots of Hoodia products are prepared from the whole plants. The Hoodia Gordonii plant has fibrous material, skin, leaves, flowers, etc., which has no active ingredient that assists in weight loss. So do not look for quantity. The active ingredient is found in the core. Prefer product if it is prepared by concentration.

• On some products you will read 10:1 that means 10 grams of plant was used to prepare 1 gram of Hoodia Gordonii powder to fill pills and capsules. If you consider this, you will note why it is better to buy 500 mg product than buying 1000 mg Hoodia Gordonii of other brand name if first one contain only concentration and the second is prepared by whole plant.

• The last and final thing to remember is that many of the Hoodia products contain metabolic boosters that increase metabolic rate of your organism. This is always not a bad sign because Hoodia itself cannot speed up metabolism. It only reduces amount of food you take.

• However, some manufacturers believe that natural stimulants can help you in increasing your metabolic rate, which is a plus. These types of natural stimulants help in burning fat.

• If you do not react to stimulants such as caffeine, then it is better to avoid any other Hoodia product and concentrate only on buying real Hoodia Gordonii.

• Hoodia Gordonii is 100 % natural and herbal. It has no side effects. Any one can use these products. This can be purchased from the market in the form of powder, pills or capsules.

If you study these tips carefully before buying Hoodia Gordonii then you will never buy a fake product.

What is Hoodia Gordonii Anyway?

What is Hoodia Gordonii?

Hoodia is a genus of succulent plants in the family Apocynaceae that is widely used traditionally by the San people of southern Africa as an appetite suppressant, thirst quencher and as a cure for severe abdominal cramps, haemorrhoids, tuberculosis, indigestion, hypertension and diabetes. Various uses have been recorded among Anikhwe (Northern Botswana), Hai om (northern Namibia ), Khomani (north western South Africa ), and the !Xun and Khwe (originally from Angola ) communities. Less is known about the use of this group of plants by other indigenous people, but some records show limited use of Hoodia parts as food items, albeit not as preferred food items.

Hoodias are known to be used for cultural purposes in some areas (Hargreaves and Turner, 2002). Although relatively difficult to cultivate, Hoodia's are attractive plants and are also used for horticultural purposes.

Hoodia Gordonii CSIRThe Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa isolated an active compound (P57) for appetite suppression from H. gordonii . The CSIR licensed the rights for further development of P57 and the setting up of a sustainable production system to Phytopharm in the UK . Phytopharm in turn sub licensed the rights to Pfizer for the development and global commercialization. Pfizer has recently returned the clinical developmental rights.

What you need to know about Hoodia Gordonii

What you need to know about Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia gordonii (pronounced HOO-dee-ah) is also called hoodia, xhooba, !khoba, Ghaap, hoodia cactus, and South African desert cactus. Hoodia is a cactus that's causing a stir for its ability to suppress appetite and promote weight loss.

60 Minutes, ABC, and the BBC have all done stories on hoodia. Hoodia is sold in capsule, liquid, or tea form in health food stores and on the Internet. Hoodia gordonii can be found in the semi-deserts of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. Hoodia grows in clumps of green upright stems and is actually a succulent, not a cactus.

It takes about 5 years before hoodia's pale purple flowers appear and the cactus can be harvested. Although there are 20 types of hoodia, only the hoodia gordonii variety is believed to contain the natural appetite suppressant.

Although hoodia was "discovered" relatively recently, the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert have been eating it for a very long time. The Bushmen, who live off the land, would cut off part of the hoodia stem and eat it to ward off hunger and thirst during nomadic hunting trips. They also used hoodia for severe abdominal cramps, haemorrhoids, tuberculosis, indigestion, hypertension and diabetes.

In 1937, a Dutch anthropologist studying the San Bushmen noted that they used hoodia to suppress appetite. But it wasn't until 1963 when scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), South Africa's national laboratory, began studying hoodia. Initial results were promising -- lab animals lost weight after taking hoodia.

The South African scientists, working with a British company named Phytopharm, isolated the active ingredient in hoodia, a steroidal glycoside, which they named p57. After getting a patent in 1995, they licensed p57 to Phytopharm. Phytopharm has spent more than $20 million on hoodia research. Eventually pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (makers of Viagra) caught wind of hoodia and became interested in developing a hoodia drug. In 1998, Phytopharm sub-licensed the rights to develop p57 to Pfizer for $21 million. Pfizer recently returned the rights to hoodia to Phytopharm, who is now working with Unilever.

What you need to know about hoodia:
Hoodia appears to suppress appetite. Much of the buzz about hoodia started after 60 minutes correspondent Leslie Stahl and crew traveled to Africa to try hoodia. They hired a local Bushman to go with them into the desert and track down some hoodia. Stahl ate it, describing it as "cucumbery in texture, but not bad." She lost the desire to eat or drink the entire day. She also didn't experience any immediate side effects, such as indigestion or heart palpitations. Stahl concluded, "I'd have to say it did work."In animal studies, hoodia is believed to reduce caloric intake by 30 to 50 percent. There is one human study showing a reduced intake of about 1000 calories per day. However, I haven't been able to find either study to actually read for myself and am going on secondhand reports.
